I agree. All that the NetIBA does, as far as I can gather, is to verify people's identities and, presumably, make them more worthy of our trust since the anonymity factor is eliminated.
The big question is, has this prevented fraud? I don't think so. I once wrote to NetIBA aboout a HYIP site that sported their logo but which eventually disappeared with my investment. They wrote back --after a long wait--to say the name of the admin could not be found on their records. End of story. If NetIBA seriously wants the respect of Netizens, and not just pocket the fees it earns in membership fees, it should do everything it takes to earn the privilege. |

Most of the sites that take off with your money have fake NetIBAs, I don't think that it is worthless at all. Just make sure that you check the certification. Use the Consumer Protection Tool, that is what it is for. I am not suggesting to go in solely on a NetIBA, what I am suggesting is that you use all the tools that are available. NetIBA is one. You ask if it prevents fraud, I think that it most certainly does, the honus is not on them to check out every site that claims a certificate. That is not a reasonable thing to expect of anyone. The honus is on us to make sure if a certificate is legitimate. I believe that NetIBA could be more helpful in pointing the way to the CPT, but now you guys all have a link. Use the tool, type in the sites address you want to check up on and if it has a certificate, it will display their information. You can also search through the certificate number. Knowing where an admin is and who an admin is, is not worthless information.

NetIBA is certainly not the be all and end all of DD. It is another weapon in your arsenal. Certification is not a guarantee that the site won't crash, but forged certification is a pretty good guarantee that a site will.

Nothing that an admin has had to divulge personal information to get is useless. Unverified NetIBAs are useless, but if you put the effort in to check them, then it does provide a little more piece of mind.
It won't stop a program from going under, it will make an admin think twice before stealing your money though. |

you don't need to download or install anything to tell whether a netiba cert is real.
simply try this url: http://www.netiba.com/si.php?websiteurlhere e.g. http://www.netiba.com/si.php?www.netiba.com if the cert is not valid, you will see an image that says 'not approved' e.g. http://www.netiba.com/si.php?goldentalk.com |

Thanks for the link. This is certainly useful to verify its claim.

I totally agree with you. Being a member of Netiba, we can check the info as mentioned by you. The next step I took is use whois. Compare both information then you have a better idea. For example, this site claimed they are Netiba certified. http://www.trade-asia.biz . For Netiba member, please check the cert Id. you will find it's belong to gcisurf which is based in Bulgaria. Now compare the info with this :http://www.whois.sc/trade-asia.biz "Prevention is better than curing" Thanks |

In case anyone is wondering, both 12 Daily Pro and 50 Cent 2 surf have valid certificates. Nothing will make doing DD any easier, but any extra step we can put in to safe guard our money is, in my opinion, worth taking.
