Having been scammed by GCI I learned something. NetIBA Certification is as useless as the paper I use to wipe.......... On further thought, toilet paper is much more useful to me. This Sasho guy or girl or whatever it is showed us all how easy it is to just fill out a form and pay some $ and get an NetIBA cert. that most people thought carried a lot of weight. Well, NetIBA doesn't mean crap to me. I have read that Stormpay started pushing this thing. It's time we start emailing Stormpay and NetIBA and pointing out in all the forums that this certification is BS. Pheeeewww! I feel a little better now.

I take your point Babbaluci but if memory serves me well (and at my age there is some doubt) this Sasha person claimed to have forged the NetIBA certificate so it is hardly their fault if someone does that.

Maybe the thing to do is to join NetIBA at http://www.netiba.com/index.html and have a site verified as NetIBA verified each time that you visit one.

As near as I can work out you have to pay some cash to be a member. $19.95 for one year for each of your email address, your user name and web site URL. For your cash you get to use the NetIBA logo and some code so that if anyone clicks on it they get taken to the NetIBA home page. You also get NetIBA's CONSUMER PROTECTION TOOL that alerts you when you access a NetIBA verified web site and access to the members discussion board. Forum to you and me.

Clicking on the NetIBA logo just brings up their home page. What I would have expected is a message to say that the site is registered with NetIBA or not.

So for me NetIBA is nothing more than a means of making money for their admin and they have no official backing and no teeth if a member scams the public. The best that they can do is point you to some authority that can take action if you lodge a complaint with that authority.

This forum is as good an authority as NetIBA for naming good and scam sites and it is FREE to anyone who cares to join. In fact you don’t even have to join to read.

The NetIBA home page sports their logo with an ID# of 540027X. StormPay’s ID# is 540054X. Has anyone spotted a higher ID# anywhere?

NetIBA is another way for StormPay to make more money. NetIBA does not guarantee anything. Don't invest solely on NetIBA certified.

Well! Jambutty, with all due respect, and I have a great deal of respect for you and all the wisdom you share with us here, I disagree with the fact that if someone gives NetIBA false documents it is in fact NetIBA's responsibity to check out the facts that anyone presents to them. Isn't that what their certitication is all about? Isn't that why they are charging $? Isn't that the reason their certification is suppose to mean something? I think NetIBA needs to raise their standards and do a better job verifying the information provided before I have any respect for them or would even think of joining them. The fact that Sasho gave them false doc's and still got his certification, pursaded many people that GCI was in fact above the fray and invested funds. Any site that has the NetIBA cert. means nothing to me.

I will continue to check with GoldenTalk on a daily basis because as you said, it is in fact the best source for good sites and scam sites. The advice and recommendations by all the members here can't be beat anywhere. Thanks to all!

If anyone is interested the consumer protection tool is freeware. I don't know why they don't list it on their site. I think they make a bit of money from people who sign up to get the tool. I googled netiba consumer protection tool download and I found a few places that have it. http://www.tucows.com/preview/400905

It is easy to use, you just type in the site name or the ceritificate number to verify if they have a legitimate security certificate. I remember Williams-fund forged one not that long ago. If you see the certificate it is worth checking. If anyone ever wants me to check one for them, let me know. (If you are too lazy or paranoid to install the thing).

Not a problem. I am all for NetIBA, I will be sure to post a warning any time I see a site with a bogus certificate.

By the way, why do you think that NetIBA don't provide a download link for their consumer protection tool? You would think it only hurts their image if people get away with using bogus certificates. They should be letting people know where they can freely get it.... Just a thought.
