Another thing you might consider (and I am seriously considering) is using a less popular OS that hackers don't usually attack, such as Linux or Mac. I will probably get an iBook to use just for my online stuff to avoid most problems.

The best way to defeat a keylogger is not to use the keyboard when inputting your logging in details. You only find out that you have a keylogger on your system AFTER it happens and by then it is too late. SnoopFree and Anti-Keylogger, like anti-virus programmes are only as good as the latest update but there is a lag between a new keylogger coming out and the anti something people finding out about it and that is when you are vulnerable.

You need a really good firewall and anti virus software plus things like Ad Aware and Spyware Doctor and do regular sweeps of your computer. You must also keep them all up to date with updates.

RoboForm is probably the best of many programmes that will log in for you when called upon to do so and no keys pressed.

If Windows ask you to remember inputted log in details don’t allow it to do so.

The other way to defeat a keylogger is to copy and paste your logging in details from a pre-prepared text document.

I’m always wary of free anti this, that and the other programmes produced by an individual like in the case of SnoopFree. It is not beyond the realms of possibility that the programme code does for the author what it claims to prevent for others. In other words it will find keyloggers but at the same time sending keystrokes to the author of the programme. If the programme code were ‘open source’ then that would be different because it could be examined for any ‘extras’.

Anti-keylogger is a bit steep at $89.95 but at least there is a free download to try it out. I am going to.

I was thinking about doing the same thing. Just buy a laptop just to handle my money and not anything else.

You can try Knoppix, Mepis or Ubuntu LiveCD where you can load Linux from your CD-ROM without the need to install anything thus maintaining your current OS.

http://www.knoppix.com/
http://www.mepis.org/
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/

Details on them can be found here.

I am currently using knoppix to surf, so far so good.

Cool

I downloaded PrivacyKeyboard and installed it but it didn’t seem to work for me. Maybe it was me but I got rid of it. It didn’t touch my ZoneAlarmPro though.
