I'm sorry. i tried, but my knowlege of wesites and security issues is lacking. That's why I asked the experts for help.

If I was a scammer I would have never used my real name, and would be gone by now.

Honestly, I'm sure you're a nice guy and all, and I think it would be rash to call you a scammer right away, but your reputation doesn't really count for much now.

Can you please discuss what you intend to do? Is the program 100% dead? Will you retire on a beach for the rest of your life nursing your existential pangs? Will you instead spend that time on the beach reading computer security books?

I think you catch my drift.

Looking forward to some constructive discussions here.

Flip, by the sounds of the $s here.. it'd be worth it to hop on a plane and drop into e-gold offices (if that's possible)

I tried many times, but just got an answering service. I'm still trying. I have also sent e-mails, and i am waiting for a reply

I can't remember any exact quotes that I could give you, but if you do a google search you will find PLENTY of e-gold horror stories.

This is wild speculation, but wouldn't it be possible for a back-door to have been built in into the new website script?

I'm still in shock after reading Peter's email, I can't believe what just happened. There's no point in calling E-Gold since they don't care and will tell you that you're responsible for your own account security. It was a huge mistake to use E-Gold in the first place, this was just doomed to happen. We should have gone with regular bank transfers etc.
Oh well, nothing can be done now, our money is gone.

Yeah, I agree with you. Hell will freeze over before e-gold will "refund" us. They simply cannot do it because it would be a violation of their e-gold Account User Agreement

Read this:

"2.3.2. User acknowledges and accepts that in the case of a claim of unauthorized Spends, the presumption shall be that all Spends are authorized by and are the liability of the User."

taken from the e-gold Account User Agreement.

I've just had a reply from e-gold. this is what they say...
Quote:
Peter,

The person who compromised your account used the automated interface to spend the funds. There is no pin required for automated spends which is why you did not receive a pin e-mail for that ip address. You may want to adjust your automation attributes to restrict automated spends to a specific ip block or disable this option entirely.

As of today we know specifically of 9 viruses that could cause a problem similar to the one you are having.

1. Win32/Goldun.ia (One customer said he did not find anything when he ran Norton and McAfee anti-virus software, but he found the Win32/Goldun.ia Trojan when he used a software called 'Kaspersky')

2. T SPY_HAXDORY (A customer who was receiving the fake login confirmation page located a virus with Trend Micro Housecall identified as T SPY_HAXDORY.
Removing this seemed to solve the problem without having to reinstall
windows.)

3. TROJ_GOLDUN.DO which has a file named CPU.EXE found in the c:\windows directory. This was found with Trend Micro's PC-cillin.

4. cpu.exe (Aladinz.l Trojan) more information regarding this virus can be found at http://www.auditmypc.com/process/cpu.asp

5. GDIWXP.DLL

6. pwsteal.trojan

7. Win32.Grams.I which monitors Internet Explorer windows until the user visits the e-gold login page: e-gold.com/acct/login.html. Once the user is logged in Grams opens a hidden Internet Explorer window in which it accesses the user's account balance: e-gold.com/acct/balance.asp

8. Trojan.LdPinch.L

9. Trojan.PWS.GoldSpy e.exe in Directory D:\Documents and Settings

We investigated and placed a value limit on account # 4349158 to prevent it from receiving additional funds. However, regrettably we are unable to refund your money because e-gold Ltd. (e-gold) is contractually prohibited from freezing e-gold accounts or releasing e-gold account records.

You might want to consider obtaining some combination of help from a legal professional or law enforcement to obtain a court order, if the size of your loss warrants expenditure of your resources (time and money) to resolve.

The court order/subpoena should be presented by fax to:

e-gold, Ltd.
c/o Andrew S. Ittleman, Esq.
1001 Brickell Bay Drive
Suite 2002
Miami, FL 33131
Facsimile: (305) 371-8989

If you are able to receive the records electronically please specify the appropriate email address the records should be emailed to. Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks for the production of any e-gold records.

In order to ensure you get all pertinent information when issuing the court order or subpoena to e-gold Ltd please:

- Ask for e-gold account profile information for account number #4349158
- Ask for transaction history information for account number #4349158
- Ask for information on any other accounts owned or controlled by the individual
- If applicable, ask for stabilization of the funds in question "freezing of the account if the funds are still under the control of the perpetrator"

Regards,
e-gold Abuse~

Keep your e-gold account secure... educate yourself @ http://www.e-gold.com/security.html.

*You should NEVER click on links in an e-mail (even if they appear to come from e-gold, Ltd.). Always copy and paste the url in your browser window and consider using Mozilla for safer browsing!*

I, too, just read the e-mail from PeterB and was just astonished!!!! Many mixed feelings and emotions running through. I have been around the HYIP world for a couple of years now and this is not the first time a program has ended due to the purported hacking of an e-gold account.

However, this is the first time that it has happened with an apparent honest Admin who had a working system for trading on the Forex. Everywhere I have read about the market is that it is not possible or practical to expect that one can gain 20% or more from actively trading. Yet PeterB had apparently beat the odds and was teaching Jude the system.

I would like to become a student and try to recover the loss I had with ClubFX (in the four figure range, although I understand there are others who have lost much more). This would be one way for PeterB to repay those who have "loaned" money to ClubFX. If I read correctly the loss was alleged to have happened to an e-gold hacker and not due to a trading loss. If we could learn something out of this at least all would not be lost. As the old saying goes, "Give a man a fish, feed him for a meal; teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime."

How about it PeterB?
