As a followup to this thread...

I've just spent the entire day rescuing a workmate's computer from its death throes... In the process (and after I had formatted and reinstalled the entire system.. and yes, it *was* necessary... ) I discovered a firewall I had not ever come across when i was a Windows user. It's called Comodo and its completely free (not a cutdown version of a Pro or anything, it IS the main product). You are required to get a free registration /activation key/link and its looking pretty good at this early stage.

It seems to work a lot like Zonealarm and many others in that it works on exiting apps, not just incoming attacks, and its very easy to set up. Looks like a really good alternative to the others.

http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ go take a look, it might save your bacon one day

Zone Alarm or Sygate's for me. I'm personally hiding behind two routers, with ACL configured properly, so its pretty much not an issue.

Default Conflicts

Please advise whether it is appropriate to have an antivirus, anti spyware and firewall with all shields on. Is there a conflict of interest or does the system suffer in any way? Lastime I had a antivirus and anti spyware the system speed slowed greatly.

Man thanks

Hello Sonny Curtis,
Conflicts with anti this that and the other software may have been the case a couple of years ago but to day it seems like most of the software lives happily with others. However what did slow things down was when each decided to do a scan of your computer at the same time or when it was very busy with other things. All my anti this that and the other software is set not to do automatic scans. I prefer to do it manually just before I close my computer down for the day.

Whether you are new to the HYIP world or have a wealth of experience behind you, a very warm welcome to you from admin, moderators and our happy band of forum members.

You might like to refresh your memory of the forum rules at http://goldentalk.com/t7526.html and you can post your comments about them at http://goldentalk.com/t25587.html

If you are an out and out newbie to computers and the Internet these could be useful to you.

If you have some time to spare maybe you would consider having a read of the following threads.
http://goldentalk.com/faq.html
http://goldentalk.com/t563.html
http://goldentalk.com/t2510.html
http://goldentalk.com/t2270.html
http://goldentalk.com/t2413.html
http://goldentalk.com/t2504.html

You should find them useful.

Finally a couple of tips on DD.
Go to http://www.goldpoll.com/ or .net or .org. As far as the IE browser is concerned go to the menu Edit and select ‘Find (on This Page) and in the Find what: field type in the name of the programme that you are researching. Just the name will do and not the URL. If GoldPoll is monitoring the site you will be taken to it quickly. Other browser may do things differently so you may have to search for the ‘Find’ facility.

Back in the forum do a search for the programme. Once again just its name should be enough. If there is a thread or threads for that programme you will be shown a list of them.

Good Luck!

Jim

Red face

I have used NOD 32 for a long time and I find it good and now I am using MacAfee and it is working well and much better than NOD 32 as a firewall.

I’ve used ZoneAlarm Pro for many years and it has served me well.

I have never used a firewall and totally depends on windows own. It is useless for me because spyware and latest one can break into easily. I always use some Anti-Spyware and Anti-Virus Instead.
