That’s what I was a feared of olly. A developing trend. Some unscrupulous admins, not content with just taking off with our deposits now want to help themselves to our E-Gold accounts as well.
As I stated before my counter is going to be contact admin for the name and number of the E-Gold account first. Transfer just enough funds for depositing to a separate E-Gold account. Scrutinise very, very carefully the E-Gold paying in page. If in ANY doubt don’t deposit. |

just had a thought duyduy, jambutty, How did you come across these sites? i tend to delete any e-mail i have not requested, and usually only join something that somebody whose been around the block a bit is promoting, i know thats not foolproof but i think it lessens the odds a bit.

I came across FIA in the GoldPoll.
FIA is still up but I notice that the spend button takes you to the real and genuine E-Gold paying in page, so something is happening. I still haven’t had a reply to my two contact messages. Time for a third. |

Dear heavens, I do hope you are wrong, Jim. That would be just tragic. In the meantime I have put my plan into action and transferred the bulk of my funds to a secondary account for storage purposes. This account will never be used for anything except to guard against the thieves.

I hope that I am wrong too kyteflyer but the rogues out there are forever looking at ways to divest us of our funds. We cannot be too careful.
We all know about spoof emails and not to click in any link in them. We all know about keyloggers and use some other means to log in somewhere rather than using the keyboard. We all know about clipboard readers. We all know about an URL hijacker that places a Trojan on your computer and that alters your E-Gold Sentinel settings next time you log into E-Gold. We know what has become the next account stripper. What will it be after that one? |

Here is the email from egold to me, I can share with u all, maybe it'll be usefull
There are some very good security recommendations off our website under the security tab. You should review this information and put each suggestion into practice. Also you should make sure that your e-gold passphrase is completely different from any user names or passwords you use anywhere else on the internet **the same goes for your e-mail password**. You can protect yourself by: * Using another browser instead of Internet Explorer (IE). Firefox by Mozilla is an excellent choice. You can visit www.mozilla.org for more information. * Do Not auto-preview incoming e-mail. * Do Not open obvious spam. * Do run a full virus scan regularly. In addition there are three security recommendations we would like to make to you in case you are not currently doing them. 1. You may want to consider book marking the e-gold IP address versus the URL as your e-gold bookmark and only access it via your bookmark. The IP to bookmark is https://209.200.169.10. The reason for doing this is there are viruses such as this one: http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/defa...n&virus_k=99469 that plant fake entries in the host file which windows then uses instead of the correct IP address for the site. Using the e-gold IP address versus the URL will bypass this type of Trojan. Also, never access your e-gold account via an email message even if the message appears to come from e-gold. 2. Always use the SRK feature to access your e-gold account never type it in! You should first change your passphrase using the SRK feature. If your passphrase is changed using the "SRK" feature and the account is only accessed using the "SRK" feature, then your passphrase will be protected even if there is a Trojan virus on your computer. However, this is true only if you are at the correct e-gold site. To ensure you are always at the e-gold site, you may want to click the box next to your account number on the login page that says, "Store my account number on my computer". In the future when you attempt to log into your account and if the account number is not displayed, you should be wary of entering your passphrase because you may be at a fake e-gold site. a. Log into your account using your current passphrase. b. Click on the button that says, "account info" c. Scroll down to passphrase box and click in the box. d. Click on the button that says SRK e. A small window will pop up on your screen f. Enter your new passphrase by clicking on the numbers, letters or symbols in the pop-up window. You will see *** being added to the passphrase box as you use your mouse to click on the numbers, letters or symbols. *See note g. When ready to confirm your passphrase click on the arrow on the bottom right hand corner of the pop-up window. h. Confirm new passphrase using the same procedure you followed in item #6. i. Click update passphrase. *Note: For upper case letter click on the upper case "ABC", for lower case letters click on the lower case "abc", for numbers click on the "123", for symbols click on the "sym" 3. If you are making a spend via the e-gold shopping cart interface (SCI) always confirm you at the actual e-gold site. To verify you are at the actual e-gold site when using the SCI spend page, double click on the gold security lock and verify that the certificate was issued to www.e-gold.com and that the certificate was issued by verisign and is valid from 11/20/2006 to 12/1/2009. You can also review the certificate details and make sure the certificate serial number is: 7872 5754 6288 71BC 999A 7DB1 466E 9313. Regards, e-gold Abuse |

Hi all,
Sorry to hear about the problems with hackers. Obviously it is always diligent to read all the info on E-Gold security on a regular basis not only so that we can keep it in the back of our mind but just in case things change. Apart from using all the security features on E-Gold, the minimum being a totally seperate e-mail account, use of the srk button and ip change on. I devised a system that I've put on my site amongst other things that will probably help out. Basically you forward your messages from your separate E-Gold account to your mobile phone. Obviously you need to have your e-mail active on your phone (if you don't then I would suggest reading the manual, searching the internet or contacting your service provider). This will extend your security features in 2 ways:- Firstly you will never have to log into your e-mail account if your ip is not static stopping any keyloggers etc that may have got onto your system. Secondly you will know within minutes if your E-Gold account is being hacked 24/7 as long as your phone is not on silent or switched off. If this happens you need to log into your E-Gold account and change your password immediately. Obviously if your phone is stolen you can stop the forward and revert to the email account again. Hope this may be useful to you all the best, Spinner |
