The latest version of an email allegedly coming from E-Gold has just got nasty.
It is from AccountRobot_donotreply@e-gold.com with the Subject: Notification of e-gold account update. It reads: “** e-gold Account Information Update Notice ** Dear e-gold account holder, Due to concerns, for the safety and integrity of your account we have issued this warning message. It has come to our attention that you are involved with High Yield Investment Program (HYIP) industry. Therefore, you will have to agree with new Account User Agreement modifications, if you want to continue using our service. Once you have reviewed and agreed with these modifications your e-gold account service will not be interrupted and will continue as normal. Failure to accept a new agreement may lead to account suspension. Please use a particular link below to login to your account. https://www.e-gold.com/acct/login.html then update your Birth Date Proceed to an agreement review page Thank you in advance for your prompt response. --------------------------------------------- Please do not reply to this automatically generated email message.” It does not have a visible attachment, yet my ZoneAlarm Suite reacts to it to inform me that it has found a virus (Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen) simply by me reading the email. Before anyone asks it is definitely the email that is causing the virus alert. I have closed every window except Outlook Express and even disconnected from the Internet and when I click on the email to read it, within a few seconds ZA pops up with the alert and to inform me that the virus has been quarantined. |

Best way to avoid this kind of thing is NOT to accept or read HTML emails. Switch to text viewing only, and if you MUST use outlook express, one of the most ill-conceived email programs ever, then make absolutely certain you a) view in text only and b) do NOT have the preview window active.

Thanks for that kyteflyer.
I would just add “or get ZoneAlarm Suite”. And use an exclusive email address for payment processors, banks etc. Most spam will go to your regular email address that you use everywhere else and if you get an email allegedly coming from E-Gold or whoever in it, you will know right away that it is a fake. I mean how could E-Gold send you an email to an address that they don’t know about? As for OE – well in some ten years of usage I have never had a problem with it. But then I use MailWasher to interrogate all emails and trash anything suspicious BEFORE OE has a chance to get its hands on them. But before that my ISP vets all emails for known viruses and disables any nasty before MailWasher can access them. |

Whether you are new to the HYIP world or have a wealth of experience behind you, a very warm welcome to you from admin, moderators and our happy band of forum members. We are here to help each other. You might like to refresh your memory of the forum rules at http://goldentalk.com/t7526.html and you can post your comments about them at http://goldentalk.com/t25587.html If you are an out and out newbie to computers and the Internet these could be useful to you. http://goldentalk.com/t20852.html http://goldentalk.com/t20851.html If you have some time to spare maybe you would consider having a read of the following threads. http://goldentalk.com/t563.html http://goldentalk.com/t2510.html http://goldentalk.com/t2270.html http://goldentalk.com/t2413.html http://goldentalk.com/t2504.html You should find them useful. Finally a couple of tips on DD. Go to http://www.goldpoll.com/ or .net or .org. As far as the IE browser is concerned go to the menu Edit and select ‘Find (on This Page) and in the Find what: field type in the name of the programme that you are researching. Just the name will do and not the URL. If GoldPoll is monitoring the site you will be taken to it quickly. Other browser may do things differently so you may have to search for the ‘Find’ facility. Back in the forum do a search for the programme. Once again just its name should be enough. If there is a thread or threads for that programme you will be shown a list of them. Good Luck!
