The main reason i think for windows popularity among common people is the number of applications available in the market. Most of these applications will not operate with Linux and this makes the users to use window Operating system software.

It is said Linux is the top OS for users. While for me I still think Windows is a nice one for me. Still secure for me!

i would say windows because it is not an open source operating system. im not a techie nor have i really studied computer engineering. i only have a bit of a background knowledge. i guess threats are now mainly from the internet..so a good antivirus should do the trick just fine.

Do you mean open source Operating systems are not good?
Threats are more from internet i agree, but your operating system is also important to save you from such threats.

I think if you operate any browser from the sandbox like vmware virtual machine or by using sandboxie then there is no way you are going to get the virus. But that is highly unlikely these days. So linux is good over windows becuase virus don't get permissions to run and in case of windows any small infections under admin account can be serious to wipe out data.

Practice shows me that 90% of users likes windows, linux is not so famous OS, only professional and programmers use it.
